These Special Districts are responsible for operation of local (Secondary) canal systems discharging to SFWMD canals. Boundaries for these Special Districts were estimated from Special District maps illustrating jurisdictional boundaries. The boundaries have been topologically corrected by SFWMD to remove overlapping areas and the boundaries have also been extended into the road to function as needed in the SFWMD's Local Contact Viewer Application. Water Managers and Regional Representatives provide guidance for the maintenance of this dataset.

Please note, areas within Special Districts may or may not be serviced by the corresponding Special District. The BDWMD_SPECIAL_DISTRICT_SERVICE_STATUS feature class provides information on serviced areas within Special Districts. It does not include this information for all Special Districts. This feature class was compiled to assist SFWMD in clarifying serviced area information to residents and other stakeholders. Cities and counties may be responsible for the areas not serviced within these boundaries. For Indian Trials Improvement District, this is an example where a special district does not serve within their full legal boundary. This map illustrates this example: https://www.indiantrail.com/home/showdocument?id=155.

Latest Updates

October 2019 - Updates to Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District were made according to Resolution No. 2018-04 to remove Units 8, 8A, and 8B.
